John Keefe

John Keefe tinkers with bots, chat systems, and artificial intelligence. He's currently building bots in the new Quartz Bot Studio in NYC. The Bot Studio was created to experiment with applications of bots, artificial intelligence and related technologies for journalism on new platforms.

He also teaches a class on rapid prototyping for new ideas in journalism technology at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.

Keefe was formerly Senior Editor for Data News at public radio station WNYC in New York City. The Data News team supports WNYC's newsroom and other properties of New York Public Radio with data reporting, visualizations, investigations and crowd-participation projects. Keefe previously led the station’s news department. In addition to his work at WNYC, Keefe runs workshops on sensors and journalism, is part of small hardware-hacking group called Team Blinky and is writing a book titled "Family Projects for Smart Objects," which will be published later this year from Maker Media. He was a WVU Reed College of Media Innovator in Residence in 2015, teaches at the New School University and has taught journalism classes at Columbia University and the City University of New York.
